Position: Post-doctoral research associate at the University of Arizona, Department of Entomology

Education:
"Doctoral" degree in biology from the Rijksuniversiteit at Leiden, The Netherlands (November, 1987).
Ph. D. in entomology with minor in statistics (with emphasis on experimental design) at Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge (May 1994). Advisor: D. P. Pashley.

Research Experience:

Thesis: Genetics of encapsulation ability in Drosophila melanogaster against the parasitoid Asobara tabida (advisors: C. Mollema & K. Bakker).
Dissertation: Host plant adaptation in two strains of the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda; Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). My research interests in this project were the evolutionary forces that determine host range in phytophagous insects.
Research Interests:
Physiological adaptations in insects for long distance dispersal
The evolution of host use in phytophagous insects
The causes of ecological specialization (including the importance of "trade-offs")
Professional Societies:
Entomological Society of America, 1989 - Present
Society for the Study of Evolution, 1990 - Present
