Carpet BeetleCategory: NOLIMinimum Life Cycle: Six months. Distribution: Worldwide; not injurious to stored grain or grain products. Biology: Eggs - Deposited on animal substances, such as wool or fur. Larvae - Feed mostly on animal substances. Adults - Found in warehouses. Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus scrophulariae). The carpet beetle is one of a group of dermestid beetles that are destructive to wool, leather, silk, fur, and other animal products. The adult stage will feed on flower nectar and pollen. There is usually a one year life cycle. The larvae are active crawlers and the adults fly well. The insect occurs worldwide (Figure 18). (Slide and top caption courtesy of Degesch America, Inc.)
