Summer 1999: Aphid trapping data.

Results reported in this issue of Aphid Alert are total captures of winged aphids and species identifications for the following locations and sampling interval end-dates.  Data for missing locations will be incorporated into this week's issue of the newsletter as it becomes available.

During the week ending 6 July, total aphid captures were 254, i.e,  21.1 aphids per location compared to 20.4 aphids per location the previous week.   Turnip aphid, Lipaphis erysimi (Kaltenbach), (78 aphids) and bird cherry-oat aphid, Rhopalosipum padi (L.), (59 aphids) and were the most abundant aphid species in the traps.   Green peach aphids were captured at three locations, Crookston (3 aphids), Linton (4 aphids), and Mandan (1 aphid).  Dr. Lockhart tested these green peach aphids using immunocapture-PCR and found that they were NOT carrying potato virus Y (PVY) or potato leafroll virus (PLRV).  No positives have been reported yet this year.  The first positive for PLRV last year was 6 July.
